This site came about because I found myself answering a lot of questions about Alaska posted on various Usenet newsgroups. The responses took a lot of time, so I finally got smart and archived them here on the web. Folks always seem to be curious about Alaska. Perhaps it's the mystique surrounding it from years of being isolated from the Lower 48 or by its portrayal by Hollywood. I've been to Alaska four times so far; I've driven up twice (from the East Coast of the U.S.) and have lived there for three full summers. I have yet to see all there is, although I've made a pretty good stab at it. I can't claim to be an expert (after all, I haven't stayed through a winter yet), but I do love the land and have spent a good deal of time there.
Following are some hints, links, photos, etc. that will help you "armchair adventurers" out there. Lots of fodder for northern dreams.
